Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons plain bread crumbs
  • 2 cans tomato sauce (15 ounce cans)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic (diced)
  • ¼ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • ¾ pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 Italian sausage
  • Marinara sauce
  • Meatballs
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
  • 6 large slices of Provolone-Mozzarella Cheese (or just Mozzarella is fine too)
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 dashes salt
  • 2 large French rolls
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. For the Meatballs:Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F
  2. In a large bowl, add the ground beef, Italian sausage, bell pepper, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and egg
  3. Mix all ingredients together and form 6 large meatballs
  4. Set the meatballs on a small baking pan and bake uncovered in a preheated oven until they are completely cooked through and browned (about 17 to 20 minutes)
  5. Remove from the oven and let rest for about 8 minutes
  6. Keep the oven on for use to melt the cheese on the sandwich.For the Sauce:While the meatballs are cooking, heat a medium size pan on medium heat
  7. Add the olive oil, onion, and garlic
  8. Saut for about 4 minutes
  9. Next add the tomato sauce, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes
  10. Stir all ingredients together and simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes.For the Sandwich:Cut the rolls in half lengthwise but not all the way to the bottom
  11. Leave about an inch uncut at the bottom of the roll and slightly open each roll
  12. Ladle about cup of the marinara sauce along the inside of each roll
  13. Cut the meatballs in half and lay 3 halves in each roll
  14. Ladle in about another cup of marinara sauce on top of the meatballs in each roll
  15. Top with parmesan cheese
  16. Lay 3 pieces of the sliced cheese on top of the meatballs in each roll
  17. Bake in a preheated oven until the cheese is melted (about 8 minutes)
  18. Lay the remaining meatballs on top of the melted cheese in each sandwich and ladle on more sauce
  19. There may be some sauce leftover
  20. Top with the parmesan cheese and serve while hot.
