  • ¾ cube of butter
  • ¼ cup of dried parsley
  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (or garlic salt)
  • 1 small loaf of dark wheat or oat bran bread
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup of dried parmesan cheese
  • 2 long sprigs of fresh rosemary leaves (1 tsp. of dried rosemary would also work)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (omit if using garlic salt)


  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F
  2. Cut the bread (crust and all) into one inch squares
  3. Put into a large bowl and set aside (depending on the size of your bowl, you may need to make this recipe in two batches)
  4. In a small bowl add the butter and 10 or so rosemary leaves.Melt the butter with the rosemary leaves in it
  5. The microwave works well for this when using a glass bowl covered with a paper towel
  6. Drizzle the butter with the rosemary leaves over the bread and mix gently.Add the herb and parmesan mixture over the bread and gently mix
  7. Add the bread onto a large cookie sheet making sure that the bread is spread out evenly
  8. Drizzle the olive oil on top of the bread.Bake in preheated oven for approximately 40 minutes
  9. Occasionally move the bread around using a spatula
  10. Then turn up the heat to 375 degrees F
  11. for a few minutes
  12. Just enough so that the croutons get slightly brown.Let cool before serving.
