Ingredients

  • ½ cup Canola Oil
  • ½ cup chopped Cilantro
  • 6 Corn Tortillas
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ cup chopped Green Onions
  • ¼ teaspoon ground Cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon ground Black Pepper
  • 1 ¼ cups chopped Purple Cabbage
  • 1 can Refried Beans (16 ounce can)
  • 1 cup Salsa
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chopped Tomatoes
  • ½ cup Water

Instructions

  1. In a medium size pan add the refried beans, cumin, garlic, pepper, and water
  2. Stir together and warm on low to medium heat.Cut each corn tortilla into the shape of a heart
  3. Heat a small skillet on medium heat and add the canola oil
  4. To test if the oil is hot enough dip just an edge of the tortilla in the oil and if it sizzles add the entire heart tortilla
  5. Cook until each side of the tortilla is golden brown (about 3 or 4 minutes)
  6. Remove the tortilla from the oil and set on a paper towel
  7. Repeat until all tortillas are cooked
  8. Set aside.Chop the green onions, cilantro, tomatoes, purple cabbage and lettuce (optional)
  9. Shred the cheese
  10. Spread the refried beans on top of the tortilla shells
  11. Next spread the salsa on top of the beans and top with the cheese, purple cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, and lettuce (optional).Add the sour cream to a pastry bag with your favorite decorative tip
  12. Pipe the sour cream around the outside edges of the tostada so that it resembles the look of lace
  13. Or make any decoration with the sour cream you would like
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature as an appetizer.
